The Band, the myth . . .The Biography:
We are Das Bandt. After more than 6 months of this old biography, we felt it was time to write something new here. Our first demo was recorded and released, and now our second one has just been mixed. What do we play? We have never had any direct influences, but rather a musical environment that we of course have borrowed from. We have been compared to quite diverse acts such as Tom Waits, Captain Beefheart, and King Crimson. Anyway, enough said, give us a try, and do visit our website for more info, and give us some feedback.
(Here follows our old bio)
So here we are, four years later, still fighting to reach out with our music. It might feel as if we have been standing still, but as this will show, there has been a journey to get here.
During the fall term of 1999 a band was formed. It featured Ian Wainwright on drums, Jonas Elvander on electric bass, and Markus Forsberg on electric guitar. Two thirds of this band had barely touched their instruments before so the progress in the beginning was rather slow. Starting to play covers by Rage Against the Machine and generally wasting their time, not much happened, but then some songs were written, which of none were recorded, and few remembered. Even though somewhere in the back of their heads they knew what they were playing was not what generally was considered good, but there was still some originality that they felt that drove them on. Over a year after being formed, there was a certain need for a name, as they were also having their first "gig" at a music competition. After much pondering and fighting with each other, the name "Das Bandt" was taken, mostly as a joke but still it stayed in lack of anything else. Now things started rolling a bit more, with new songs being written, most of them never performed though. After having a few gigs playing covers, the first "real" gig was in the summer 2001 when their own songs were performed. Some even liked it, even though it was not a major hit. Things progressed slowly, it was all the time very hard to get any gigs, being a band with no experience and without any contacts. New songs were written constantly though and they gradually became better and so did the performance of them. Nothing really happened for a year or so except for a small group of people who grew to like the music some. But then came another creative surge and a number of songs were written, that were actually rather good. It started to become slightly easier to get gigs (still almost impossible though) so it almost felt like there was hope for us.
And here we are.

IAN
drums, percussion
Name: Ian Wainwright
Occupation: Drummer/Percussionist, student
Main problem: Collects huge amounts of broken drums
Ian is the drummer in the band. He has developed quite a personal style... well here is the story in his own wrods:
One day, we started a band. Guess who couldn't play an instrument and therefore had to play the drums? Yeah, you got it; me... Now I'm stuck back there with my drums. Sad story, huh? What your probably thinking is "sad f**k... poor bastard fell for the old 'you suck so go play the drums' trick". Well too late to change that now. Anyhow, I play the drums. Done so for about four years. I break a lot of stuff when I play. I've got five cymbals, yeah, where of two are broken... It's not my fault they can't make em so they don't break, now is it. All of you drummers who are reading this start listening to Rush now!!! Thats if you're not already. Cool guy that Peart; and a load of drums he's got too. Well if you got this far reading you might as well stop.

JONAS
bass
Name: Jonas Elvander
Occupation: Bassist, student
Pet: Sigge (fat cat)
Before every band practice there is a certain ceremony that has to be conducted. Jonas is called up and asked to come. He will answer "I just got up, have to eat breakfast, I'll be there soon" *click*. One hour later he is called up again just to be found frying eggs. After much yelling and angry screaming, he usually manages to get to practices. But since he's the nephew of Graham in Wire, we think he's pretty cool. Or if we instead ask God what he has to say about Jonas:
(Gods' voice speaking)
"A time must come when the world is ready to be overwhelmed by the heavenly fruits of the art also known as BASS playing. Jonas is the name of this mysterious bass player, who actually played guitar but changed to bass pretty early on. (because it was much cooler!). Jonas' destiny was decided early since both his father and uncles played the bass. Nowadays he has spread the tradition of bass playing on to his younger brother whose life recently too became pointless. The fine art of bass playing is a matter of balance. Only when the five elements and the universe operate in symbios, real fine bass playing can be executed. So to drive away the darkness and enlight the still unknowing world of pathetic underdeveloped creatures of the coming revolution which is going to change the world's (insert word here)!!!

MARKUS
guitar, vocals
Name: Markus Forsberg
Occupation: Guitarist, vocalist, student, webmaster
Three main goals for the moment: Graduation, driver's license, being able to continue playing music
Started playing guitar around the same time as the band started playing together. Picked up the guitar since he was young and naive, did not know that it was a path of Doom he had chosen to trod.
Playing guitar. Electric guitar.
Bah.
Complete and utter nonsense.
Who has ever cared for someone playing a crappy guitar solo?
Who has ever cared for that fellow standing there on stage, playing that chink-a-chink rhythm guitar with a weak try at a winning smile?
And singing? Singing??? Really, who would not give a hundred dollars just for that wailing thing on front of the stage to just shut up? Well that is the path he has chosen, but it is his own path. He might be walking in the footsteps of another doomed musician, but is not following them knowingly. He might as well be walking towards that 500 meter drop, where he will fall down as he has not taken heed and followed the usual trails. That is why it all sounds the way it does.
